Standard Wiring Harnesses

for the C6 Corvette

(updated 5/20/14)

Since I began building custom harnesses for the GM PAL in 2009, I've been making minor changes to the harness to improve the quality.  The harness below was one of my most popular and troublefree:

Hundreds of these are working for Version 2 PAL owners with very few problems.

In an effort to build a more "OEM Quality" harness, I began wrapping the harness and the new standard harness became this one:

But although this new harness has the same terminals and connectors as the original harness, I've had a few problems with this one.  What happens is that the protective tape wrap is so strong, it holds the wires so they can't slip.  Normally this is what you want in a good harness, but the method of terminal latching in the plastic connector housing is not quite up to par - when a particular wire is slightly shorter than another wire, that wire is taking most of the pulling force when you might remove the connector.  So a few owners have seen a terminal pop out of the connector when its metal locking tang fails to hold it in place.  If that happens, you might lose connection to the PAL module or XM receiver.  Depending which wire pulls loose, you might lose audio or XM or power to the PAL module.

Note that I'm not suggesting this harness is unreliable.  99% are just fine.  But I'm trying to achieve perfection if possible.

About the same time as I began having the standard harnesses wrapped, I also began building a new Premium harness:

This harness is super quality because of its superior connectors and terminals and the method of latching.  The connectors and terminals are made by Delphi and Molex and are the best OEM quality available.  You can read about the details by clicking HERE.  These terminals CANNOT come out without using a special tool and the wires are soldered to the Molex header (female connector).  But these harnesses are considerably more difficult to build and hence, more expensive.

In an effort to keep the price down of the entire PAL package, I've lowered the price a bit on the premium harness described above.  But for a further savings, I'll still be offering the universal harness I get from Mediatronics shown here:

The universal harness is basically the same as my original harness shown in the top photo, but it has additional wiring to allow it to fit other PAL kits besides my Version 2 PAL kits.  They have the same connectors and terminals as my original standard harness, and they are generally reliable.  I still highly recommend the premium harness, but for those who want to save some bucks, this alternative is fine.  Like any of my harnesses or kits, they are fully warranted - just email me or give me a call if you have any sort of problem.
