PALs

  I'm short of PALs for a bit, waiting on Mediatronics to get their shipment of circuit boards in.  I've had Mediatronics direct ship over 20 PAL kits while my wife and I were on vacation, but I've still got 8 backorders to fill.  I'm trying to get an ETA from Mediatronics for the circuit boards so they can ship me PAL modules they owe me.  As soon as I get them in, I'll be able to ship immediately.  I'll also update this website as soon as I get some information on the ETA.

AUX, NAV, F-55 Harnesses, and PAL software upgrades

General Information

I'm shipping Version 2 PAL kits with the latest release of software, version 2.2.F132.  This release will work for all C6 factory Nav radios and all C6 factory non-Nav radios with XM.  For early C6 non-Nav radios without XM, I will ship software version 2.2.F089 which includes a radio unlocking code to create an XM band on your radio.  Please email me if you have an early non-Nav radio without XM so I will be sure to send you the correct software. 

The PAL kits now include the new 8' iPod cables that make installation simple in the coupes and Z06s without the need of an extension cable.  

I have also added a new Premium installation harness option as described below.

For owners of the original GM PALs, you can order software upgrades that will make your PAL identical to the new Version 2 PALs.  As you probably know, your original PALs will not charge the latest iPods, iPhones, and iTouches.  This can be remedied if you purchase one of the new 5 volt iPod cables and replace your old white iPod cable.  Since the new iPod cables are 8' long (compared to 4' long white cables), you can run the cable to your center console area if you so desire.  

Note for owners of other non-Corvette Class 2 vehicles, you must email me first so I can be sure to have the correct installation harness and/or software for your PAL.  

I now can get you PALs for your GMLAN vehicles with Nav or non-Nav radios.  These include 2007 and later GM trucks, Tahoes, Yukons, Suburbans, etc., as well as Saturns, Buicks, and even some Pontiacs.  Mediatronics has new software available for these vehicles that unlike the PALs from a dealer, will work in Nav and non-Nav radios and also will charge the latest iPods and iPhones.  They also have Direct mode, Aux mode, and the new Quicklinks features that the GM versions still don't have.  To order these PALs, click on the Add to Cart Button for "GMLAN PALs" and email me with your year, model, and radio type.  I do not keep these in stock at this time, but they are readily available in a few days.

For European customers, I'm sorry to say I don't have a solution for you.  The European UL2 option has a different firmware for the European frequencies and your radios will not recognize a PAL or an XM band.

Ordering a new Version 2 PAL Kit:

There are a few different configurations, depending on your car.  

Here's what you need to know to place an order:

1.  Do you have a factory Nav radio or a non-Nav radio?

If you have factory Nav, order the "A" kit.

If you have the US8 or US9 non-Nav radio, order the "B" kit.

2.  Do you have an XM receiver, or at least the XM receiver harness?

If you have an XM receiver, add a "-XM" to the order.

If you have an XM harness, but no XM receiver, add a "-HARN" to the order.

If you don't have an XM harness, add a "-NONE" to the order

If you have a convertible, the XM receiver is behind the waterfall, next to the center console.  

If you do not have an XM harness, you will likely mount your PAL module near the fuse block of the passenger footwell, because the PAL harness connects to the back of the radio.  

3.  Finally, are you interested in the new "Premium" installation harness?

It is electrically identical to the standard harness, but wrapped, and has better quality connectors.  Although the standard harness works great, C6 owners with XM may want the Premium harness for an additional $30.  

If you want the standard harness, add nothing to the order.

If you want the Premium harness, add "-PREM" to the order.

Canada and other foreign shipments, please add $15 for International Priority Mail

Although USPS Priority Mail in the U.S. takes only 2-3 days to most anywhere in the U.S., International Priority Mail is often delayed by the foreign country's Customs agency.  Plus the foreign country's mail service may or may not be as fast as ours in the U.S.  I have seen PAL shipments to Canada take as little as a few days but one took almost three weeks.  All of my shipments have delivery confirmation with a tracking number, but once the shipment leaves the U.S. the tracking numbers aren't too useful.

If you would prefer to upgrade to International Express Mail, the tracking is better and supposedly will be much faster.  Please add $30 for Express Mail

Installation Note for all original PAL owners who have their PALs installed the "GM way":

For those owners who have their PAL module installed at the bottom of the passenger side Fuse Panel, there is very limited clearance for the wiring of the PAL module.  You will notice that this new 5v iPod cable does not have a right angle RJ45 connector for connecting it to the PAL module.  This means you must bend the cable to get it to fit properly.  A couple of owners have experienced a "no charging" condition or other strange PAL effects if the connector is not straight and firmly in place.  When you place your PAL module back in the mounting location, consider leaving it out towards the back of the car about 1/2" more than before.  That way you won't bend the cable and have the connector not making proper contact.

PAL Software Upgrades

Upgrade your original PAL module to the latest Version 2 software for $35 (plus $5 shipping):

If you have an original Version 1 PAL and want the new features of the Version 2 PAL, I can upgrade your PAL module to the latest release of software.  Send me your PAL module (only) and I can upgrade the software and return it to you with a one day turnaround.  I will ship your updated module back to you via Priority Mail in a small Flat Rate Box.  I will also include a one page operational guide (which you can also download here from the Version 2 PAL page) that shows how to use the new Version 2 features.

When you remove your PAL module from the bottom of your passenger footwell fuse panel, you'll likely find it is stuck pretty good with double velcro.  If you use a screwdriver you can pry it loose after you remove the 16 pin connector.  Be sure to pull the blue locking tab back so you can push down the black release tab on the connector.  After the module is loose, push down the locking tab on the RJ45 connector for the iPod cable and remove the cable.

To cover my basic costs, I can offer software upgrades to original purchasers of Version 2 PAL kits or previous Version 2 upgrade purchasers for $10.  You pay for the shipping of your module to me and the $10 cost will include my return Priority Mail shipping back to you.  

For Version 2 PAL kit owners with software versions prior to C450A193, send me your module and I'll update it for free and I'll pay the return shipping cost.  This is because there were some operational issues with the early software that should be corrected.
